Missions…. What does that mean? What does it mean in HopeCity and here at Park Place?
As commanded by Jesus Christ, we are intentional about our interest in and support of the mission we are called to. That calling is bringing hope to the world’s darkness, bringing light to the shadows, and freedom to those who are captive to their own compulsions. As a people, we believe this can only happen when we enter into a relationship with the giver of hope, light, and freedom, Jesus himself.
Our people are citizens of a greater place than the city and state in which we physically live – a kingdom filled with transforming love. When we participate in offering the love we have received from Jesus to others, we do missions.
Mission to Crescent City Apartments
Summertime Vacation Bible School (Boomerang Express), games, snacks, meals, witnessing, school supplies, and visiting with families and children at the Crescent City Apartments involved many HopeCity residents this year. Our goal of proclaiming hope to the city of Houston became clearer as we held a festival on our campus to celebrate getting to know the apartment families through VBS and other recent projects. This mission continues especially through the holidays which tell of His birth, as more and more church people take Jesus into the community to introduce them to the greatest Gift that God has given - salvation through His Son.
Mission Park Place
Many individuals, families and teens have made the commitment to participate in Mission Park Place, a witness to the community directly around the church here in the Park Place area. This involves the Le Montreal Apartments and has included a free garage sale, a Saturday carnival, and many interactions with residents at the complex, resulting in adults and children responding to the gospel by attending worship services. Some individuals have become followers of Jesus through this effort.
Mission Arlington
Citizens of HopeCity often are involved in trips to other communities, coming alongside ministries in other towns as they spread the gospel. One such time was Mission Arlington, an event which included all ages in ministry. Children, aged ten to senior adults past eighty, participated in this effort to minister in the city of Arlington, Texas. They sorted and dispensed clothing, food, helped with transportation, bible studies, games and recreation activities for children, and witnessing to individuals in the community around the center about the love of God.
